A Memorable Family Sojourn to the Coasts of Maine and Beyond!
As the summer sun grew warmer and brighter, my family and I decided it was time for an unforgettable adventure. We packed our bags and headed north to the idyllic coastal town of York Beach, Maine, accompanied by the most cherished members of our extended family: my parents Al and Bettye, my sister Liz, and her two young boys.
Nestled within the serene landscapes of New England, our home for the week was no less than a dream. A charming abode situated just 50 yards from the ocean, it boasted breathtaking views that served as a constant reminder of the sheer beauty of Mother Nature. The tranquil lullaby of the sea waves became our morning alarm and our nighttime serenade.
The days unfurled themselves like a beautiful canvas, each unique yet forming part of a memorable masterpiece. We spent our time building sandcastles, exploring local shops, and embarking on nature trails that led us through Maine's verdant landscapes.
A particularly heartwarming highlight was my son Grant's 15th birthday. To celebrate, we took him to a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game, immersing ourselves in the timeless spirit of America's favorite pastime. But the day held another special event: the baptism of my son in the bracing waters of the Atlantic Ocean. That profound, spiritual moment, shared amongst family against a backdrop of the expansive ocean, will be something that we cherish for a lifetime.
As the week drew to a close, we shifted our adventure to the bustling cityscapes of Boston. Walking the Freedom Trail, we were able to touch the texture of America's history and revel in the timeless architecture of Providence, Rhode Island. We also had the chance to visit the New England Patriots Hall of Fame in Foxboro, MA – a treat for the sports enthusiasts amongst us!
Undoubtedly, one of my personal highlights was going to a Red Sox game with Grant and sitting on the Green Monster. The energy of the crowd, the roar of excitement, and the shared love for the game was a magical experience that solidified the bond between father and son.
On the ancestral front, we had the opportunity to visit a monument in Newbury, MA. My mom, Bettye, found her lineage etched in stone as one of her ancestors, Giles Badger, was a founder of Newbury. It was a touching moment, bringing past and present together, reminding us of the ties that bind us to this land.
Reflecting on our trip, I am reminded of the importance of family, heritage, and creating shared memories. Whether we were embracing the tranquility of York Beach, relishing the sports-filled energy of Boston, or tracing our roots in Newbury, each moment served as a reminder that life's true wealth is measured in experiences shared with those we love.
From the Zettergrens to you, here's a gentle reminder to cherish your family, celebrate your roots, and don't forget to play in the sand. Until the next adventure!
